Research description: L-asparaginase, a chemotherapeutic drug used in treatment of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) and also as a food processing agent. Toxicity and repression caused by bacterial L-asparaginase shifted focus to eukaryotic micro-organisms such as fungi to improve the efficacy of L-asparaginase. Present work is focused on the production of L-asparaginase that is free of glutaminase and urease from fungus. In order to achieve the proposed objective, a bioprocess has to be developed from shake flask to bioreactor reactor level with the aid of statistical optimization for medium formulation.
